Attendance
The World Tourism
Conference 2007 is expected to attract delegates
from 70 countries to Malaysia. So far
representatives from 12 countries have confirmed
their participation and more are expected next
month. Being held in Asia, at least 60% of the
international delegates are expected from the
ASEAN countries and China, India and Korea. In
attendance will be a large number of
representatives from international NGOs on
tourism, environmental protection, nature
conservation, human rights, cultural
integration, poverty alleviation, world peace
and health.

Visit by UNWTO
Representative for Asia and Pacific, Mr Xu Jing
Mr Xu Jing was on
a 2 day working trip to Kuala Lumpur from 17 to
19 March 2007 to finalise the preparations for
the World Tourism Conference. There was a
working lunch with HE Datuk Dr Victor Wee,
Secretary General, Ministry of Tourism, Malaysia
followed by an inspection of Shangri-la Hotel,
the host hotel of the event. He said the event
is expected to be attended by Tourism Ministers
and tourism representatives of the 150 governments who
are members of UNWTO.
Malaysia to
showcase HomeStay programme
Delegates will get
to have a taste of Malaysian homestay program
when they participate in the post-Conference
technical tour.
