18th July 2008 - Letter of Intent
DISCOVERYMICE Sdn Bhd and Lao National Tourism Administration (LNTA) entered into a Letter of Intent to explore the feasibility of sharing expertise, experience and resources in organising and hosting the World Ecotourism and Adventure Conference 2009 in Vientiane, Laos from 15th to 17th July 2009.

The LOI also paves the way for the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding to be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 18th August 2008.

 

18th August 2008 - MOU Signing
The Vice Chairman of LNTA, H.E. Mr Soukaseum Bodhisane and DISCOVERYMICE President, Mr Lee Choon Loong will ink a Memorandum of Understanding at Corus Hotel, Kuala Lumpur to stage and organise the World Ecotourism and Adventure Conference 2009.

The Conference is an important and strategic step in promoting Lao PDR as a leader in ecotourism and adventure tours as well as a preferred Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions destination.

The Vice Chairman of LNTA, H.E. Mr Soukaseum Bodhisane and DISCOVERYMICE President, Mr Lee Choon Loong signed a Memorandum of Understanding at Corus Hotel, Kuala Lumpur to stage and organise the World Ecotourism Conference 2009.

The signing was witnessed by H.E Ambassador Dr. Bountheuang Mounlasy and H.E. Datuk Dr Victor Wee, Programme Chairman of UNWTO.

In attendance were Mr Thavipheth Oula Director General of LNTA, Mr Tan Hock Soon, General Manager of Go Holiday Air Asia, Mr Ben Cheok of Don Chan Palace Hotel, Professor Dr Amran Hamzah and Mr Inthy Deuansavanh of Lao Association of Travel Agents (LATA).

 

 

8th August 2008 - WEC2009 Website
In conjunction with the MOU Signing Ceremony, LNTA Vice-Chairman, H.E Mr Soukaseum Bodhisane unveiled the website for the World Ecotourism Conference 2009.

 

 

26th August 2008 WEC2009 National Steering Committee

The Minister & Chairman of LNTA, Lao PDR appoints a National Organising Steering Committee comprising of various Government Ministries, agencies and private sector tourism organisations to plan, manage and execute the World Ecotourism Conference 2009.

 

 

12th September 2008 - ITE, Ho Chin Minh City, Vietnam

In the International Travel Expo 2008 in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnamese ecotourism community expressed support for WEC2009. Technical tours to Vietnam's ecotourism sites have been arranged.

 

 

14th October 2008 - TIME, Makassar, Indonesia

Organisers reached out to the ecotourism community in Indonesia at the Tourism Indonesia Mart & Expo 2008. Participants will have the opportunity to visit some some of the World Heritage Sites in Indonesia.

 

 

22nd October 2008 - ITB, Singapore

More NTOs and airlines have pledged to support WEC2009 in Lao PDR. Thailand, Vietnam and Malaysian airlines will be international carriers for WEC2009 participants

 

 

30th October 2008 - BIMP-EAGA Community Based Ecotourism Conference, Manado, Indonesia

The conference attracted about 200 participants. Organisers took the opportunity to promote WEC2009.

 

 

24th November 2008 - Making sense of Ecotourism, Kuala Lumpur

Participants from the Malaysian Ministry of Tourism and Ministry of National Resources and Environment were briefed on WEC2009.
